Wardown Museum holds an art exhibition competition every year and it has been running since 1934.I entered two of my paintings on Sunday and today I recieved an email saying my paintings have been rejected. Its fair knocked the stuffing out of me.I feel the need to share my successes as well as my failures.
If these are the two rejected paintings - they must have blind judges! No accounting for some people's taste. Point in case: I read recently, about a maid who cleaned a puddle like spot on a museum floor and was fired for destroying a 1.5 million dollar painting (called "Drip" or something like that). Who are these people anyway, who decide what is good art? I love your work and think you are very talented. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jean ,I so needed your words of encouragement!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about your rejection, Azra. Don't let it get you down -- for too long, that is. Your work is good. Keep trying, and keep smiling!
ReplyDeleteYou pick the stuffing up and put it right back inside you! These are so representative of you! It is your style.
ReplyDeleteIsn't art like ice cream - that's why there's vanilla, and chocolate, and raspberry pistachio coconut ripple and those judges probably just wanted vanilla
I second Linda's "keep trying and keep smiling!"
Rejection is so difficult, isn't it? In the end, however, it only serves to make our success more sweet. You are very talented, Azra. Keep painting and enter this exhibition again next year.
ReplyDeleteP.S. These paintings are lovely. Hold your head high!
Chin up Az! Don't let it get you down. Different judges are looking for different things. Your paintings are terrific and they just keep getting better and better with time. Hang in there.
ReplyDeleteAzra,is there anyone on this earth who hasnt seen failures? I have seen too many of them and still very much upbeat and alive! These 2 are beautiful paintings, keep painting.. sharing one's failure is a stepping stone to keep away ego!
ReplyDeleteRemember these words - ALL judging is subjective. The pieces you submitted are really lovely - don't let the rejection get you down, and don't be afraid to enter these in other competitions. Your work is beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that, but don't give up and keep trying as Linda said. These two are gorgeous pieces. you have great depth in your paintings and I love your style. don't loose hope that time of success will come.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda,I will keep trying. : )
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen, for you to say I have a style is really comforting.
Thanks Darla, for saying I'm talented,it sure means alot right now!
Thanks Karla,my chin is back up. : )
Thanks Padmaja, you've certainly made me feel upbeat too!
Thanks Claire, you're right judging is subjective and I will keep faith in what I do.
Thanks Sidmar, your words give me courage to go on.
Putting this rejection out there was not an easy thing to do but I'm so glad I did because you've all made me feel so much better and stronger.
Azra,
ReplyDeleteI think your art is wonderful! And yes as was mentioned a lot here already, art is totally subjective and each competition calls for a certain style/ look. Who knows perhaps they were looking for something different it doesn't mean yours isn't good by any means! It just means they want something else. You have to keep submitting until you find your niche.
We have to try for things - put our necks out knowing full well the possibility for a big let-down is entirely feasible, even likely at times. You have to risk to gain, and the more you risk the better your chances of success. I admire you for going for it, and especially for letting us all in when it didn't work out. It makes your work feel all the more personal, makes us feel connected to you as a person through your art. Much respect - don't give up, Azra!
