Figs

I would love  to know from my blogging friends who is their most favourite artist ,either present or past and why.

I began admiring Jack Vettriano and still do love his work, but my present favourite is Donna Walker.I always look out for her work on DPW,her simplified landscapes are almost abstract.Having a recognised style is something we all strive for and her work really stands out.At the craft show back in June I met an artist and he gave me a valuable piece of advice. He said that in order to succeed an artist has to stand out.I've realised that achieving that is not an overnight task, but a work in progress.I suppose the key is not to give up,keep trying and the best of all, enjoy every brushstroke

  1. Your figs are lovely, I like how you blend your compositions with gentle edges and make them feel so comforting and inviting. I have different 'favorite' artists at different times too. If I could own a print or original piece from any artist, I might want a Norman Rockwell, or MC Escher. But some of the contemporary people I admire right now are Armin Mersmann, Michael Zancan, and JD Hillberry. Those are artists who are doing the type of work I'm interested in doing at the moment. But really, it's not usually the artist himself that draws me to a piece of art... it's more the individual piece that I find becomes a favorite for whatever it is that I see in it that inspires me.

  3. Wonderful color and texture on this one! Oh my, favorite artists? I admire such a variety of styles it is hard to choose and I also find it changes day to day as my own artistic journey evolves. Among daily painters some of my current favs are Julian Merrow-Smith, Simon Shawn Andrews, Karin Jurick, Rita Kirkman, Sarah Sedwick, Diane Hoeptner, Robin Rosenthal and of course, a shining star, Carol Marine for both her artistic ability and also her business savvy and generous spirit... and many many more I'm probably not thinking of at the moment. Unfortunately because there are so many wonderful works to see online I spend way too much time exploring when I should be painting!!!

  4. I lean towards the illustration side of life and some of my favorite artists in that category are Howard Pyle and J.C. Leyendecker. But I also love just the black and white side of life and agree with Katherine on her choices and want to add Dirk Dzimirsky and Anthony Waichulis. And then there is the painterly side of life and my list just goes on and on but I'll start with Singer Sargent. If I don't stop there I'll take up all your space, Azra. And I love the purple on the figs!

  6. Dear Azra, I am afraid I can't think of one specific favorite artist, first because there really are a lot and second because I have a terrible memory and can't remember names..but one I always remember is Manet because I love the subjects and the atmosphere he created. When this is said, I think you make some wonderful and rich figs. xx

  11. Hi Azra,
The Figs painting is lovely! I liked the loose brushstrokes and the texture you've created.
When I first started to paint 4 yrs ago, I was looking for inspiration and I chanced upon Roger Bansemer's paintings on the internet. His landscapes are serene and evoke happy feelings. I used to spend several hours seeing his videos which taught me many subtle painting skills. His skill in capturing ordinary scenes and turning them into amazing paintings is what gave me confidence to pick up my brushes. Also, the way he simplifies the most complicated elements in a scene with such ease is what drew me to his work. Though I lean towards realism I'm trying to make sure I don't get too caught up in the details. Roger's work has the right balance of realsim and impressionism and this personally fits me too. :)
