Orchid
This orchid was given to me by my husband on our wedding anniversary last week. This is not my favourite flower, after being married for so long you would think he would know that ,but bless him he still does'nt have a clue,lol!! I will say that where it really counts he is always there so I think I'll have to forgive him the little things.The whole idea of romance is pure hype and I don't mind anymore,I must be getting old.
This was painted in oils as I went all out yesterday and bought everything I needed to start.I'm surprised that today it was a bit of a struggle as it can turn to mud very quickly so every brushstroke has to count.

You've already had the acrylic side of fighting it out (you know what I mean? how quick it dries and such) and with oils its a different battle. Hugs to you both for a happy anniversary!
ReplyDeleteLovely orchid-captured the softness of their petals. Yes -easy to make mud but you'll learn to think about where you want certain colors, put them down and don't go back over them. When you start mixing on your canvas, you get mud. Good for you for embracing something new and going for it but you are a fearless artist so I'm not surprised.

ReplyDeleteRe the mud factor, the DPW's ArtByte - Keeping your oils loose and fresh - is a great tutorial for alla prima painting. Carol goes through what areas to paint first, etc. It is the only ArtByte that I've purchased thus far, but well worth the $15. Now, if I can just remember to apply her principles!
Too funny about your husband. My husband kind of does the same- he buys me the right flowers but always forgets my favorite color!Yes we must forgive the little things to appreciate the bigger ones.
