Portrait in oils

SOLD
Today was wonderful!!! Adebanji Alade ran an oil painting workshop on portraits in Cass Arts which is in Islington.Adebanji worked his magic and I don't know where four hours went.He is a truly gifted artist and an equally gifted teacher who can communicate his passion with humour and ease.I painted my first portrait in oils and I felt like I was in heaven, the look and feel of oils and the freedom with which you can move oils is so different to acrylics. It almost felt like  it painted itself,I don't know if that makes sense ,but I am hooked on oils.
Bringing the painting home was a bit tricky and there was a little smudging but on the whole its in great condition. This is painted from a photo of his wife,I must ask him what her name is so I can name my painting.

  1. Amazing portrait work, Azra. She is lovely. You seem to fall into whatever painting mode that strikes you, and do very well. You are extremely talented.

  5. Azra you watch you'll probably never look back! Oils are so additive and once you've experienced that freedom like you explain it takes over. So glad for you! The painting came out fantastic. I just wanted to say although I'm sure Adebanji probably mentioned it that there is a gel medium you can add to the paint that makes it dry a bit faster. It's handy when you want to paint plein air and such. On the other hand you can also just get used to the wet on wet timing and let it dry on it's own. So much fun!!!!

  11. great portrait and what a wonderful experience. First time I used oils, I was completely hooked. I try lots of other mediums but always come back to oils. And I'm always a mess-oils on my clothes, doorknobs, car-whatever.
