Pitcher and Flowers

This is the second of my larger stretched canvas paintings. This is from a photo I took last year when i was experimenting with the manual controls and got some colours that were'nt actually there.I've left out alot of detail in the background and added bits too.I wonder,my artist friends, how much time do you spend preparing for a painting?

  1. Hello Azra. I think you made a good choice by letting out the details in the background. This way the viewer is directly taken to the beautiful flowers. I like the warm colors! About the preparing: sometimes I google on the internet to see more photo's of my object. I always have a plan how and where to start and wich colors to use. After that I always think everything over before putting my brush on the paper.

  3. Nice work here Azra. I'm drawn to the leaf and shadows on the pitcher. Actually, all your shadows are wonderful... love that blue! Sometimes I have a plan, sometimes I don't, sometimes my plan changes mid-painting!

  4. I like very much these bold colors and the light on the jar, and I like the simplicity of the composition without an overworked background. I normally have very little preparation as I don't usually sketch the subject, whether it being watercolor or oil, but I am starting to think that maybe it is better to sketch as I do have a lot of ' not so good' stuff, so maybe a bit of preparing isn't a bad idea :-)

  5. This is lovely. Do you under paint? I like these colors, too. They have a bit of a dramatic look. Well done.

  8. This really lovely Azra. I love the bright blue background against the pretty orange rose. The white vase is perfect. I spend very little, if any time preparing. I just paint when the spirit hits me and let the muse take over. I am the type of person who has to get right to it, no diddling around. Which means either it comes off or it doesn't, and I live with the results. Sometimes, I paint over it. I guess that is why my paintings run hot or cold. :\

  10. love the bold color in this. I spend very little time preparing my daily paintings. I've tried both ways-sketching, thinking about composition, asking myself a lot of questions before beginning and I find that I usually end up getting nervous and tight and that is reflected in my painting. It's more important to me to paint frequently and be happy and hope I'm learning the valuable lessons on the way.
